Disk tree map
Are there a lot of programs which are capable to carry out disk space analysis quickly and effectively and to present analysis’ results visually? Apparently not, and program Directory Size is one of few such programs.
What are specialties of this disk tree map utility?
Firstly, simple and convenient for work interface. It is not necessary to be advanced user to understand it, it’s enough to start the program and to be convinced of this yourselves.
Start the program. As you see Directory Size has a real very simple interface. A minimum of control panels and tools. Practically all commands of management are in the program window.
However, if you have noticed the uniform window in Directory Size is not present. More likely the program consists of several sub-windows in which the user carries out this or that action which in the sum yield the general result – the analyzed disk space. You should move on these windows clockwise – since the bottom left window. Let’s consider the principle of work of each of these windows more in detail.
The bottom left window. It is recommended to begin work with it. Actually, any work is not necessary to do this. All you need to do is to get acquainted with how much free disk space you have and how much you have already spent. Pay attention that in the window the results of the free space analysis of all accessible disks of your system – for example, disks C, D or G are displayed. The program shows how much you have disk space how much place is free – both in percentage, and bytes.
The top left window. The disk space analysis is necessary for beginning with this window. In this one you can load the directory which you’re going to analyze, and also to receive the first evident representation about structure of this directory. In the disk tree map utility the directory is understood to be a folder or a disk. To load a necessary directory, it’s enough to press «Scan noted disk» or «Scan a folder». In this window you receive representation about what folders are the part of the analyzed directory, about their quantity and size in megabytes (kilobytes, gigabytes – depending on the chosen unit of measure).
The top right window. As a matter of fact, the central window of the program. With its help the user can analyze structure of a disk (folder) in details. What information can be received in this window? Firstly, structure of the analyzed directory – in the form of folders and files included in its structure, both the size in bytes and percent, quantities of files and folders of following level of hierarchy. Secondly, structure of separate elements of the studied directory. Thirdly, the possibility to filter and sort directory elements.
The bottom right window of the disk tree map. By means of this window Directory Size’s user receives a full-function and adjusted visual analyzer of the disk analysis. It includes graphics and diagrammes (pies and bars), adjustment of their background and a color palette, the possibility of saving of graphic results.
