Probably you have already noticed the unusual structure of Directory Size – four windows consistently connected with each other and giving the information that is necessary for disk space reporting. Moving clockwise on these windows you can receive the necessary information. We’ll begin with the first window – at the left below.

In this window there is a general information of disk space distribution – the size of the drives and a free space in gigabytes and percents.

The second window located above is a preparatory basis for the disk space analysis. With its help you can choose a necessary directory for search (Scan folder), and this can be both an usual folder and a drive. In this window there is also tree of folders which represents all folders entering into the chosen directory, with the size of the next level folders. Having pressed a “plus” you receive the information on these folders (of course if they present). Thus, this window models the functions of your conductor for the disk space allowing to receive information about all folders in the chosen directory, their size, structure, etc.

The third window clears up the previous one. While the second represents the information on the folders this is about all the files included into the chosen folder. Besides it is a central program window, as it is it in which the basic information is presented on your disk space. In this window you receive the information on files, their size (in percents and bytes – kilobytes, megabytes or gigabytes depending on your choice) as well as files and folders of the next level. The powerful program analytical tool will allow to process and analyze the information how you’d like: to filter (for example, by extension or size); to sort by extension, size or creation date; to create lists of “best” - for example, 100 greatest files. Special options will allow displaying all files including from subfolders by certain criterion.

The last window serves for the visualization of the received results. In this you can receive the evident information on disk space distribution between files both in a bar and a pie. Here you can choose the gradient scheme of the background and the graphics.

Modern computers are huge systems including thousand and ten thousands of elements. The structure of this system is not also simple and our often irrational usage makes it practically impossible for analyzes. But not for Directory Size – a new disk space usage utility from Moleskinsoft allowing to analyze disk space of any complexity.

At all complexity of problems which the program face the disk usage analyzer doesn’t differ considerable complexity. On the contrary it is the very compact program consisting of four connected windows called visually to present the information on your disk usage: the structure of folders and files, their sizes and many other things. To learn how disk usage analysis is spent we’ll consider the disk usage analyzer work more in detail.

In top left window of Directory Size you can choose any directory (or disk) for the analysis. If for example you are interested in the structure of «Video» folder choose it with the help of «Scan folder» on the disk. In this window it is possible to receive primary representation about the directory - “tree” of the folders included into the learned directory.

The second, top left window is the most important one in the program. In it you can receive the basic information for the sake of which Directory Size was created. In particular you can learn what files and folders enter into the learned directory, their size, the share of the rate of the learned folder, the amount of folders and files included in the folders, etc. The additional means will let you filter and sort data according to your interests.

The bottom left window is intended for visual representation of the information from the previous window. Bars and pies visually show how the disk space in this or that folder or directory is distributed.

The last window, bottom right one, will be quite good “introduction” on the disk usage - on the disk sizes and free space.

Today we’ll talk about Directory Size, the program allowing to analyze occupied disk space and visualise disk usage. The program answers 3 questions:

What size does the directory have?

Which are the largest files and folders on your PC or in a particular directory?

Files of what types are kept on the computer, what is their size and number?

Thus, the program shows how the disk space is distributed in folders and files, their structure, mutual relation, submission and communication, as well as a number of the basic characteristics – size, extension, etc.

For simplification of the analysis the program navigation is constructed by a principle of “windows”. It means that Directory Size is broken into 4 windows each of which carries out the function adhered to the next window function. The navigation begins with bottom left window and goes clockwise concretizing the maintenance of the previous one. The exception is the first window which independently also carries out help function. In it you’ll learn about cumulative distribution of drive space (size and free size).

The following window allows to choose a folder or a directory for analysis carrying out (Scan selected drive or Scan folder). Besides in this window you receive the basic representation about the structure of this directory thanks to the tree of folders representing all structural communications and the relations of folders and their size (by default in megabytes).

If you wish to learn more detailed information on structure, address to the following window of the program – top left one. In this the detailed information is presented on the chosen folder. The information includes data about the structure of files, their size, quantity, parity, dale in the chosen directory. Thanks to the Reports option it is possible to obtain the concentrated data about other components. Actually – each time to build a new picture of disk space usage on various factors –size, extension, file owner, creation time. And also to create “ratings” - the newest/old files, the greatest ones etc.
